Landscaping is so much more than what you see when you look out your window: it’s the interaction between you and the environment in which you live. Landscapes offer aesthetic enjoyment, escapism, tranquility, and a sense of belonging to an area that reflects your distinct character. For more than 26 years, we’ve served the Magnolia, Queen Anne, and Capitol Hill areas of Seattle (as well as Newcastle, Bellevue, and Issaquah). Each of our landscape designs is unique, and represents an idealized form of the surrounding nature.
Let us create an outdoor space for your pure pleasure and relaxation!
Landscape Design & Installation
Landscape design is more art than science
Knowledge of plants and horticulture is a critical element of landscaping. But landscape design requires an artistic component as well. The principles of landscape design include elements of unity, scale, balance, simplicity, variety, emphasis, and sequence as they apply to line, form, texture, and color. Add a dash of your personal taste and aesthetics, and the result is a unique outdoor living space for your pleasure and relaxation.
Have you just purchased a new home and want the landscaping to reflect your character, not the character of the previous owners? Are you getting ready to sell a home and want to ratchet up the curb appeal? Or do you just want a different viewing point? We can help on all these counts.
Lawn & Garden Maintenance
Get and keep your grass green
You know a healthy lawn when you see it – smooth as silk, green as jade, and just begging for a few cartwheels or a round of bocce ball. To get and, more importantly, keep that lawn in tip-top condition requires preparation, planning, and persistence. Water alone is not enough; improper mowing can quickly wreck your investment; and it’s a constant battle to keep weeds and pests at bay.
Let us help you turn your yard into a feast for the eyes (and feet). From lawn planting and sod installation, to seasonal activities such as fertilizing, de-thatching, aerating and reseeding, to regular lawn mowing, we can do it all.
Fences, Decks, Arbors, and Patios
Add fences, arbors and trellises to help define a private oasis.
In an urban or even suburban environment, it’s hard to find a lot of glorious solitude in your own back yard. As larger houses occupy ever-smaller lots, and the demand for outdoor living spaces grows, privacy is at a premiums. And it’s not just the neighbors’ prying eyes you’d like to escape — you may want to shield yourself from their clutter and chatter.
There are many ways to add privacy into your landscape — from putting in perimeter plantings to building fences, stone walls, arbors, or trellises. Landscape structures give your garden shape and dimension, creating separate outdoor rooms that add privacy and support for plants. Find out how we can help you create your own private oasis.
Trimming & Pruning
Keep your landscaping investment beautiful and storm-safe.
Proper trimming and pruning enhances the beauty of almost any landscape tree, shrub or plant. It also reduces the likelihood that your house or garden may be damaged as the result of falling branches. Improper pruning can ruin a landscape, weakening and deforming plants. More trees are damaged or killed each year from improper pruning than by pests.
Pruning and trimming, like any other skill, requires knowing what you’re doing to achieve success. Let our skilled professionals provide all the trimming services you need to maintain your landscape investment, keeping plants healthy, improving the quality of flowers, fruit and foliage, and restricting growth to only those places you want.
Raking & Yard Clean-Up
Raking and general yard clean-up doesn’t need to be a chore.
Fall and spring yard clean-up is a pain. Leaving a few leaves on your beautifully manicured lawn is one thing. Letting even more than 20% of autumn leaves remain on turf over winter can smother grass, inhibit spring growth, and promote snow mold diseases. And turf damage from critters can be more extensive in the spring.
What are your options? You can rake or mulch the leaves yourself and try to get it right. Or you can enlist our support to help prepare your lawn and gardens to sustain the cool, wet Pacific Northwest winters, and emerge healthy and green for spring. Whether it’s simple raking or mulching mowers, we have all the tools and expertise to get the job done properly and allow you to relax and enjoy the seasons.
In my over forty years living in northwest Seattle, I have worked with a variety of talented contractors. I built a house that received architectural awards and was featured in both The Seattle Times and Better Homes & Gardens. In all of that time I have never met a contractor as careful and attentive to detail as Derek at Rainbow of Magnolia. Customer satisfaction is clearly what motivates Derek. In getting to know Derek, I also know firsthand had that he has selflessly donated to beautify the park areas around Magnolia Village as well as at Discovery Park – which benefits all of us enormously.P. We’ve used Rainbow of Magnolia for three large landscaping projects, and are completely satisfied with their work. They constructed ledge stone walls and pathways, cobble stone patios and walkways. The most recent project was to connect two existing patios with a walkway of similar colored cobble stones. The patios were two years old so matching the color wasn’t easy, but they not only found aged stones of similar color but installed them so they appeared original.
We found both Darek and his employees very easy to work with, and will hire them again for any future projects. Darek was always available to answer any questions that came up during the project, and always willing to hear what we had to say.Randy and Peggy Olin
